Adam Shepherd wins Race 1 at Donington on his TCR UK return
Adam Shepherd won the first TCR UK race of the weekend at Donington Park on his TCR UK return, beating points leader Callum Newsham who came home in second place.
The Vannin Motorsport driver started from pole position and headed Hyundai man Newsham as the lights went out.
Harry Bloor meanwhile made a slow start from third and dropped down to fourth behind Honda rival Max Hart.
Bloor continued to drop down the order and was down in sixth place at one stage.
Shepherd made a mistake at the end of lap two which allowed JH Racing driver Newsham past into the lead.
But Shepherd was quick to get back on the boot of Newsham and reclaimed the lead on the next lap at McLeans.
Disaster struck Honda drivers Jenson O’Neill Going and Max Hall who both pitted with technical issues on lap three to retire from the race.
Bloor meanwhile started to recover ground after his poor start and made his way past Carl Boardley for fourth place on lap eight.
Four laps later saw Bloor passing Hart for third place and the DT Racing Development driver then quickly gained on Newsham in second place.
Bloor managed to pass championship leader Newsham for second place with two laps left of the race.
But Bloor had a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits looming over his head which dropped him back down to fourth place as the chequered flag fell.
Shepherd won the race by close to 2.5 seconds over points leader Newsham.
Hart came home in third place while Bloor was dropped to fourth.
Boardley finished fifth as Cupra driver Rod McGovern rounded off the top six.
