Nicklas Oscarsson completes Kristoffersson Motorsport line-up for 2018

Kristoffersson Motorsport has announced that Nicklas Oscarsson will join the team for the 2018 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, partnering Johan Kristoffersson and Hugo Nerman in a third Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

Oscarsson had been left without a drive for the 2018 season as plans to continue in the TeamA Teknik-run Kia Cee’d TCR fell through at the eleventh hour.

The 19-year-old from Huddinge in Sweden made the step up to the STCC last season from Clio Cup, but endured a troublesome campaign, despite scoring points on debut at Knutstorp.

However, Kristoffersson Motorsport team boss Tommy Kristoffersson quickly signed the teenager, who will team up with Formula STCC graduate Nerman and reigning World Rallycross champion Johan Kristoffersson for his second year of STCC.

“A week ago we had basically nothing. This really shows how fast everything can turn within racing. It feels incredible to get this chance,” said Oscarsson.

Team boss Kristoffersson added: “Nicklas had a lot of trouble last year, and I know how it feels. It will be really exciting to see what he can do with our backing.

“Last year, Fredrik Blomstedt became the rookie of the year when he drove for us. We want to be a part of Hugo’s and Nicklas’ ambitions as well.”

Runner-up to fellow STCC driver Marcus Annervi in the Renault Clio Cup in 2016, Oscarsson has graduated to one of the championship’s leading teams in less than two years, something the new recruit is relishing.

“The Golf is the car we believe [is] the best, and of course KMS was [the team] we preferred,” said Oscarsson.

A total of 11 Volkswagen Golf GTI TCRs have been announced so far the 2018 season, with the announcement this morning that former KMS driver Fredrik Ekblom will front returning WestCoast Racing’s title bid.
