TCR Korea season programme unveiled at media launch

The programme for the inaugural season of the TCR Korea Touring Car Series was officially unveiled this week, with the first round of the three-event series set to take place later next month.

The latest national TCR series will kick off at the Korea International Circuit on August 26th in a joint-event with the TCR Asia Series, before a visit to the Inje Speedium circuit in September, before returning to the ex-Formula 1 circuit for the season finale on November 4th.

The championship has ten cars entered to date, perhaps unsurprisingly with the South Korean brand Hyundai strongly represented, while DreamRacer Racing Team will field the Honda Civic Type R TCR, perhaps the Hyundai’s closest technical rival.

Solite Ingigo Racing displayed their Hyundai i30 N TCR at the season launch, with other entries coming from KMSA Motorsport and E-rain Racing, also in Hyundais.

Absent from the provisional entry list is Teamwork Motorsport, though the team are aiming compete with a brand from the Volkswagen Group family and are still looking for drivers for the programme.

“I wish to thank to our sponsors, official partners, teams and the associations who helped us to kick off the TCR Korea series,” said promoter Hongsik Jeon. “I am delighted to present the TCR race in Korea, with growing interest in touring car racing around the world and these days, the concept of the customer racing become a worldwide trend.

“I believe that TCR Korea will enable teams to use the same
car to participate in other national, regional and international TCR events. The launch of the TCR Korea series will give a great opportunity to drivers and racing teams in Korea.”
