Ollie Taylor: “That’s the fastest I could have gone”

Outside championship contender Ollie Taylor has said his fourth place in qualifying was the best he could have done, with the Pyro Motorsport driver turning his attention to tomorrow where rain is forecast throughout to save his championship challenge.

Taylor qualified his Honda Civic Type R FK8 TCR fourth on the grid, eight-tenths from Lloyd’s Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR in the session, with the Honda carrying 40kg of ballast after its success at the last two rounds at Oulton Park and Croft.

“I’ve never been one to look too much into the weight thing, and we’ve just got to drive what you’ve got, but I am disappointed with fourth in qualifying,” said Taylor to TouringCarTimes.

“On paper, they’re the best part of 60kg lighter than us, and I just couldn’t have done any more – that’s the fastest I could have gone.

“I was focussed on not overdriving and I maximised the potential of the car, but that was the best we had. I’ve been setting the same lap times so I think we’ll have good race pace. We know we get good starts, but then the Volkswagens will probably get a better one because they’re a lot lighter.

“Tomorrow’s a different day; I hope it’s really wet and that carnage may ensue. I’ve not really been thinking about the championship all year, it’s only recently that it’s actually been on, I’m going to go full guns blazing tomorrow and see what we can do.”
