Garth Tander returns to TCR Australia at Sandown

Experienced Australian touring car campaigner Garth Tander will return to racing in the TCR Australia series after it was announced today that he will replace his wife Leanne for this weekend’s round at Sandown Raceway.

After racing for the Melbourne Performance Centre outfit earlier in the season, steering their #4 Audi RS 3 LMS, the 2007 Supercars champion will return to the driver’s seat for the penultimate round of the season, driving the #3 Audi.

Tander has raced in two rounds for this year’s inaugural TCR Australia season, making his debut at Phillip Island, followed by a round win at The Bend Motorsports Park, picking up a race win and two second placings along the way.

The 2016 Sandown 500 winner says that he’s looking forward to return to the TCR fold and believes the historic circuit will suit the RS 3 LMS.

“It is great to be back in TCR. We’d always looked at Sandown as one of the circuits that would suit the Audi, so I’m glad this opportunity has come up,” said Garth Tander.

“I think it will be an interesting challenging. We haven’t been to a track where you have to use the kerbs, because as we know, that’s the fastest way to get around Sandown.

“And it’s good to get some miles under my belt leading into the Bathurst 1000 next month. We know the pack battle in TCR is tight, the competition is tight and the competition is competitive so it’s great top get amongst that again and keep myself race fit.”
