Chelsea Angelo back in TCR with Volkswagen ride

Former Australian Formula 3 star Chelsea Angelo has found a seat in the upcoming TCR Asia Pacific Cup round at Albert Park thanks to Melbourne Performance Centre, preparing a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR for the 23-year-old.

Angelo competed in the inaugural TCR Australia season last year for KElly Racing, steering one of the team’s Holden Astra TCR entries before being pushed out of the team in round five for Andre Heimgartner to take over the car.

The drive comes with backing from Astrontech who supported the category’s pole award in 2019, returning this year with a $1000 prize at every round for the polesitter plus backing for Angelo.

Ahead of her return at her home circuit, Angelo says she learnt a lot in her inaugural TCR season and will use those lessons to perform with the MPC squad in Melbourne.

“It’s great to confirm that I will be back in the TCR Series, this time driving a Golf for MPC,” said Angelo.

“I really enjoyed my time in the category last year and learnt so much along the journey.

“The cars are really fun to drive and with some of the progress that we made towards the end of last season, I believe that we can transfer that into some results at the Grand Prix.

“I can’t thank Astrontech enough for showing their support to get me on the grid for Albert Park. I can’t wait for the Grand Prix week to start!”

The Australian Grand Prix support races will run from March 12-15.
