Hyundai Elantra N TCR makes race debut at Daytona

The Hyundai Elantra N TCR made its race debut during the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race weekend at Daytona International Speedway.

Bryan Herta Autosport ran two Elantras with support from Hyundai America with drivers Mark Wilkins and Harry Gottsacker in the #6 entry and Ryan Norman and Parker Chase in the #9 entry.

The Wilkins/Gottsacker entry finished sixth in the TCR class, one lap behind the winning Audi entry of JDC MotorSports, while the Norman/Chase entry finished ninth, 15 laps behind the leaders.

Qualifying had seen Gottsacker qualifying tenth, 2.5 seconds from pole, while Norman/Chase failed to take part in the session due to engine issues.

The Elantra was unveiled in September last year and is, outside of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, so far confirmed to appear in the inaugural TCR South America championship season with a yet to be named team headed by Augusto Farfus Jr.

Hyundai Motorsport boss Andrea Adamo is yet to confirm whether the model will be entered for the 2021 WTCR season.
