New date for TCR Australia round at Phillip Island set

Motorsport Australia has confirmed the postponed TCR Australia round at Phillip Island will now take place across March 12-14, having originally been slated for this coming weekend.

Delayed due to Victoria going into a five-day lockdown to avoid another COVID-19 wave, Motorsport Australia announced on Friday last week that this weekend’s round would be delayed as interstate teams would be unable to travel into the southern state.

Motorsport Australia Championships Director Michael Smith says he’s thankful for those working at Phillip Island to be able to secure the new date so quickly and that the round will hopefully go ahead with fans in attendance.

“We’re really pleased to confirm this new date for the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships and also to be able to secure a new date so quickly,” Smith said.

“I’d like to thank the team at Phillip Island for their flexibility and support, allowing us to put this event on in March.

“Motorsport Australia is in regular dialogue with the Victorian Government about this event and will certainly work to deliver a COVID safe event in line with all restrictions and requirements that may be in place at the time.

“We hope that we will be able to welcome fans to this event, however understandably there is still some uncertainty about what restrictions may be in place, so at this stage we are not offering tickets for sale. This is something we’ll monitor closely and provide regular updates for motorsport fans.”

Jordan Cox is the current TCR Australia championship leader after taking two wins over the opening round at Symmons Plains.
