José Manuel Sapag confirmed for Squadra Martino

Squadra Martino has confirmed its first driver for the inaugural TCR South America season, with José Manuel Sapag taking the seat of one of its two Hondas.

The Argentinian driver took part in a test with the team at the Oscar Cabalén circuit in Córdoba earlier this week.

“The test with the TCR Honda was very positive. We were trying different things, the idea was not to look for lap times but to analyse different setups,” said Sapag.

“There is a lot of expectation for the start of the championship and the good thing is that the work structure is the same as we have in Super TC2000, a very professional group that I have a very good relationship with.”

Sapag is racing in the 2021 Super TC2000 season for the team under the Puma Energy Honda Racing banner, currently placed 19th overall.

Last year saw the 25-year-old driving selected TCR Europe and WTCR races for Target Competition in a Hyundai i30 N TCR.

“The TCR cars are very nice to drive, they are fast. I have experience with these cars from racing in Europe and the Honda feels fast, I think we can do well,” said Sapag.
