Luke King hopeful of TCR Australia return

Luke King says he is hopeful of making a return to the TCR Australia grid in 2022 despite being unable to get a deal in place for the opening round of the season in Tasmania.

King finished fourth in the standings last year driving an Audi for Melbourne Performance Centre, with a pair of second place finishes at Phillip Island being his best results of the campaign.

The 30-year-old will be missing this weekend but hopes to be able to try and get the sponsorship required to join the grid for round two back at Phillip Island – with the championship title remaining his ultimate goal.

“We’re probably as surprised as anyone, really,” he told speedcafe.com of the news he wouldn’t be on the grid for the opener. “I mean, our plan was to always be on the grid.

“After a full season it would have been good to get back to see what we could do, but it’s just not possible at this stage.

“We’re working on some pretty exciting opportunities with sponsors at the moment [and] we’re looking at opportunities with a few different teams at the moment – it’s whoever is able to fit. With more races [this season], I think if we started from round two onwards we’d be a pretty good shot at being the dark horse [for the title].”
