James Moffat out of final TCR Australia encounter following Race 2 crash

LMCT+ Racing driver James Moffat has been ruled out of the final race of the TCR Australia season opener at Symmons Plains following his Race 2 crash.

Moffat was forced to retire his Renault Mégane following a collision with Race 1 winner Jay Hanson as the pair disputed fifth place in the second of three races at the Launceston circuit.

The car suffered irreparable damage following heavy contact with the concrete pitwall, and the limited time between races meant that his team faced an impossible job to fix it ahead of race three.

Speaking to Stan Sports after the incident, Moffat said: “It was a bit [of an] ambitious [move], it was all pretty ordinary.

“We’re out for the rest of the weekend, there’s a lot of damage to the car and not the way we wanted to finish today.”

Moffat, who finished fourth in the opening race of the weekend on Saturday, has not enjoyed the bulk of his visits to Symmons Plains in TCR, having suffered a scary crash last year after being side-swiped by another car.

The former Supercars driver was also seen to be irate at Hanson’s team boss Troy Russell upon returning to the pits, with Moffat pointing fingers at Russell.

“He mouthed off to me actually, and I just didn’t appreciate that, so I just let him know that,” Moffat said of the later incident.
