Nathan Morcom claims first win since 2019 in Sydney finale

Nathan Morcom claimed his first TCR Australia win since 2019 in the final race of the Sydney Motorsport Park weekend, heading home HMO Customer Racing team-mate Josh Buchan to a Hyundai 1-2.

Pole sitter Jordan Cox claimed the lead at the start of the race, but Morcom managed to get past for the lead on the first lap, allowing Luke King to slip past as well.

Buchan made strong progress and snatched second place from King at Turn 2 a couple of laps later and started to gain on leading team-mate Morcom.

The final stages of the race saw Buchan close to his team-mate, but not close enough for a pass.

GRM Peugeot driver Cox, who dropped three places in the opening stages of the race, managed to fight his way back past Hyundai driver King on the last lap to snatch the final podium position.

Morcom won the race just six tenths of a second from team-mate Buchan, with Cox in third, five seconds adrift.

King made it three Hyundais in the top five while Dylan O’Keeffe rounded off the top five.

Will Brown drove a storming race to finish sixth from 20th on the grid, with Melbourne Performance Centre team-mate Jay Hanson in seventh and Honda driver Michael Clemente in eighth.

Tony D’Alberto, who could only manage 16th position, continues to hold the points lead by 22 points over O’Keeffe.

The next TCR Australia round takes place at Queensland Raceway after a long break on August 5-7.
