Calle Bergman becomes first driver to join new look STCC grid

Teenager Calle Bergman has become the first driver confirmed on the grid for the new-look STCC for the 2023 season.

Bergman will join the grid with the same Exion Racing team that ran him in the TCR Scandinavia series this season and will be at the wheel of one of three BMW i4s being entered by the team in the first year for the series with electric machinery.

“I have never been so charged and ready for anything in my life as STCC 2023, the premiere can’t come soon enough!” he said. “Both myself and the team have a long way to go when it comes to building experience compared to our competitors, but I’m looking forward to 2023 and beyond when the championship makes a fresh start with electrification, which changes the playing field significantly.

“The new STCC cars seem extremely exciting and challenging to drive where I think my experience from Radical, which are also powerful rear-wheel drive racing cars, will be valuable for me.

“The only hard part is waiting to get our teeth into our new racing cars, but we are preparing as best as possible during the winter with training and simulations. We have undoubtedly the most exciting STCC season ever ahead of us!”

Team manager Daniel Aronsson said he was delighted to keep the youngster in the team for the move from TCR regulations into electrification.

“Calle is a key part of our long-term investment to be able to fight for the STCC gold and he took big steps forward during the last season despite limited preparation and experience,” he said.

“With us, there is no doubt that Calle has the potential to become one of Sweden’s absolute fastest drivers, he has the right age and the right attitude to grow and win together with us.”
