South American venues revealed for inaugural TCR World Tour season

Uruguay and Argentina will both feature on the inaugural TCR World Tour schedule after the two South American events on the 2023 calendar were officially confirmed.

After the four European race weekends that open the season, the World Tour will hold its South American races on consecutive weekends in August, with the Autódromo Víctor Borrat Fabini in El Pinar scheduled for 18-20 August before races at San Luis a week later.

Both meetings will see TCR World Tour competitors race alongside regulars in the TCR South America series.

“I’m delighted that we have finalised deals for TCR World Tour’s South American events, and we wish to thank the promoter of TCR South America, AUVO in Uruguay and the Government of the province of San Luis for their support,” WSC president Marcello Lotti said.

“We strongly wanted to bring the TCR World Tour there, because touring car competition is hugely popular in the region, and also because TCR South America during its first two seasons has established itself as one of the most competitive TCR series worldwide.”

TCR South America president Federico Punteri was also delighted to confirm the race dates.

“We are proud to bring the best international racing to Uruguay and Argentina in 2023 once again,” he said. “This is a clear sign of the global support that TCR has, and that the concept of this motorsport series continues to grow. It will be a pleasure to have the best touring car drivers sharing the track with our TCR South America field.

“We have worked very hard with all parties involved to finalise this and would like to especially thank AUVO in Uruguay, and its President Julio Maglione, and the Government of the Province of San Luis for the trust placed in bringing the best touring car racing of the world to race in our region together with TCR South America.”

With Macau expected to fill the role of season finale, it leaves just one event on the schedule still to be confirmed, with is expected to be a second meeting on Australian soil prior to the date at Bathurst.
