Robert Dahlgren to lead three-car Cupra programme for PWR Racing

PWR Racing has been officially confirmed as the fourth and final team that will take part in the inaugural season for the STCC after the decision was taken to switch to electric power for 2023.

The team will join Exion Racing, Team Auto Lounge Racing and Brink Motorsport on the grid with a three-car programme that will be led by the experienced figure of Robert Dahlgren – who has won four championship titles since joining forces with PWR for the first time back in 2017.

“Of the 17 STCC seasons I’ve taken part in, 2023 is definitely the one I’m looking forward to the most,” he admitted. “I have driven through three different regulations in the STCC and the electric rules that are introduced this year are undoubtedly the most exciting.

“The cars will make extremely high demands on us as drivers, while at the same time giving the audience more entertainment. As always in the STCC, the competition is fierce and it is difficult to say about expectations for results, but I never drive for anything other than victory.”

As expected, PWR will continue to represent the Cupra brand, with the team running three all-new Cupra Born cars that are currently under construction ahead of the new season.

Support for the programme will come from long-time partner Skellefteå Kraft, which has played a key role in the development of the technical platform for the new-look STCC.

“We are facing the biggest and most important change ever for us as a team, for the championship and for motorsport as a whole with electrification,” team manager Marcus Ekström said.

“Taking the step into the new era together with Cupra and Skellefteå Kraft to continue to inspire a climate-smart transformation of the entire society is something we are extremely happy and proud of.”

The decision to run the new Born comes as part of a new multi-year partnership with Cupra Sweden, which first started back in 2016 and the final year before the introduction of TCR-spec cars to the Scandinavian racing scene.

“There was no doubt with us at Cupra Sweden about extending our successful collaboration with PWR Racing, especially as we enter a brand new electrified era where PWR Racing and STCC become world leaders in terms of climate-smart motorsport,” Per Brinkenberg, Cupra Sweden brand manager, revealed.

“Our all-electric Cupra Born – with a sporty design and a true electrified driving experience – is a ‘perfect match’ for the investment and looks fantastic in racing trim.”

The remaining two drivers for the programme will be revealed in due course.
