TCR World Tour star Santiago Urrutia to stay at Cyan Racing for 2024

Santiago Urrutia has signed a contract to remain with Cyan Racing for next year, with his new deal being announced in front of his home crowd in Uruguay.

Team and driver are currently at the El Pinar circuit for the fifth round of the TCR World Tour, and Urrutia will start Race 1 from pole having gone fastest in qualifying yesterday in his Lynk & Co 03 TCR.

He is currently eighth in the World Tour standings, with one win and one other podium from the first eight races. It is Urrutia’s fourth season with Cyan, having first joined the team for the 2020 World Touring Car Cup and then contesting the next two WTCR seasons. In that time he claimed five wins and three pole positions.

“I’m very happy and thankful to renew my contract with Cyan Racing, the team that has given me the opportunity to become a professional racing driver – something that I will never forget,” said Urrutia.

“I feel that I am a part of the Cyan Racing family, we have together won touring car world titles and I couldn’t be happier than where I am. I want to extend a big thank you to everyone in the team who has put their trust in me, and I look forward to more successful seasons together.”

Urrutia got his Cyan drive after just a single season in TCR Europe, in which he got two podiums, having transferred to touring car racing from single-seaters where he was twice Indy Lights championship runner-up but never got the opportunity to race in IndyCar.

“’Santi’ is one of the fastest touring car drivers in the world and a valued team member who has performed strongly since day one with the team. Our decision to extend our contract with him was easy to take and we look forward to continuing working together towards more success on track,” said Fredrik Wahlén, team manager of Cyan Racing.
