Viktor Andersson elated with first FIA TCR World Tour podium
Viktor Andersson was beaming after his first FIA TCR World Tour podium finish in the final race of the weekend in Vila Real.
“We’ve had a good pace this weekend and now, together with my team-mate Aurélien (Comte), a double podium,” Andersson told TouringCarTimes.
“This is my best race result of my career, we were fighting for this for a long time, so I’m very, very happy.”
The Swede held second place until the last corner of the last lap and conseded the position to his SP Competition team-mate Aurélien Comte, crossing the finishing line third place.
“I think we’ve shown that we belong here, but I’m still happy to have been able to do the races so far,” said Andersson.
“And finishing on the podium here at my favourite track, I couldn’t pass for a better ending to this weekend.”
The Swede says he has learned a lot from racing in the FIA TCR World Tour this year.
“I have learned a lot, like the pace you need to push yourself on a normal track,” said Andersson.
“Then, you come here and you need to push yourself to another level to just be competitive and then to finish behind a multiple world champion, just a few metres behind, so that takes a lot, the race craft, everything, so I hope I can continue my journey in TCR Europe and TCR Spain later in the year.”
Anderson has reached mid-point of the season in eighth place of the drivers’ championship with 83 points.
