STCC reveals 2024 calendar for delayed electric debut

Organisers of the STCC have released the calendar for the delayed first season of racing under electric power.

The series had been due to become the first national touring car championship to introduce electric cars this season before a series of unexpected issues led to the decision to push the new technology back to 2024.

With cars now being delivered to teams and preparations ramping up, organisers have confirmed an early June start for the 2024 season, which will feature six events across five meetings.

The city event in Gothenburg will kick off the campaign as a Head 2 Head event – a format where two drivers meet simultaneously in an elimination set-up in the same style as the Race of Champions.

The Gothenburg event will feature two rounds with the third round of the campaign taking place in late June at Ljungbyhed, featuring a regular race weekend setup, before the second city-based Head 2 Head meeting in Helsingborg in August.

Events at Knutstorp and Mantorp Park round out the campaign in September.

The three traditional circuits on the calendar will run to the same race format of tests, followed by shoot-out qualifying and a final race of approximately 15 minutes.

“We are very happy to finally be able to nail down a strong calendar in cities and on circuits for 2024 together with the Swedish Motorsport Federation, organisers and teams,” Micke Bern, CEO of STCC said.

“We are aware that we have a lot to prove after last year’s delays, but now we are slowly but surely building a good foundation to properly launch the championship’s biggest-ever change.

“One of the biggest pieces of the puzzle is the calendar and we have created a robust set-up with a mix of city events and classic tracks to offer spectators, partners and competitors a fantastic season.”
