WMSC confirms World Tour calendar changes

The latest meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council has confirmed a number of changes to the calendar for the 2024 TCR World Tour.

As well as the official confirmation that the two races in Australia have been removed from the calendar, as reported earlier in the month, the governing body has also confirmed a change of venue for the Brazilian event in July.

Ongoing renovations at the Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna in Goiânia mean that race has been moved to Interlagos, whilst the meeting in China at Zhuzhou has been given a new date of 19/20 October, having originally been scheduled a month earlier.

“In the wake of the Suez Canal closure, as a consequence of the ongoing Red Sea crisis, and its impact on the shipping industry and the resulting major delays, we were left with no choice but to re-evaluate the schedule,” WSC president Marcello Lotti said.

“The original plan was to ship the cars from Uruguay directly to China, but the transportation delays make it impossible for the freight to be delivered on time. Following consultations with the series’ key stakeholders and the teams, a difficult decision was taken to drop the two Australian events from this year’s calendar with the intention of reinstating them on the schedule in 2025.

“In the meantime, we encourage competitors to enter in Bathurst International event, thus consolidating the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation we have established with the promoter of TCR Australia.”
