STCC completes first roll out ahead of new electric era

The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship organisation completed a first roll out session at Ljungbyhed Park with the new all-electric race cars ahead of its delayed electric debut in 2024.

STCC CEO and former driver Micke Bern drove all cars during the roll out in order to not provide any team or driver with an advantage and to provide consistent feedback.

“It is such a great feeling that we are finally on the track and that the cars work and perform as designed,” said Bern.

“I have driven many different types of race cars throughout my career, but never as well-balanced and responsive as these. The difference between the different models is marginal and you really have to fight to pick out those last tenths when you start to approach the limit. We have really come close to the recipe for creating spectacular and entertaining racing!”

The organisation stated that the test went without major issues bar a couple of “software updates”.

Three Tesla Model 3, three Volkswagen ID.3 and three BMW i4 took part in the test while the three Cupra Born of PWR Racing will be present for the next test.

A total of five further test days will be held ahead of the Gothenburg season opener on June 8-9 at Mantorp Park, Ljungbyhed and Knutstorp.
