Viktor Gustavsson secures Exion Racing seat

Karting champion Viktor Gustavsson will make his touring car racing debut in 2024 after inking a deal to join Exion Racing’s STCC programme.

Gustavsson secured the KZ World title in 2022 and then took second in the standings last year having also made his track debut in the Porsche Sprint Challenge.

The 20-year-old will drive a Volkswagen ID.3 and turned his first laps in the car last week at Mantorp Park.

“The car is really fun to drive,” he said. “It is relatively similar to a go kart with a great sense of speed.

“It didn’t take that long to get into the driving at Mantorp and the feeling is good. We will see this as a first school year, but then I know myself and know that you always try to win.

“I lack experience compared to the competition, so it won’t be easy, but it will be all the more fun if you take victories knowing you did well.”

Team manager Kevin Engman was quick to welcome the youngster into the line-up.

“We can’t help but be extremely happy to have such a young and promising talent as Viktor Gustavsson join us in the team,” he said. “His results in karting are world class and he will be a key part of our effort.

“There is of course a lot that is new for both us and Viktor, but we will work closely together so that he will grow and develop as a driver together with us.”
