STCC eyes city race in Uppsala

The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) organisation is eying a street circuit in Uppsala, the fourth largest city in Sweden, for 2025 or 2026.

“It’s definitely interesting. It could add value, they’ve switched to electric racing cars and that enable us to start talking about a city race,” said Magnus Jansson, head of sports at Uppsala Municipality to unt.se.

The new electric era of the STCC starts next weekend in Gothenburg with a Head 2 Head city race in Race of Champions format, which could be utilised in Uppsala as well.

“Our expansion to the cities is a key part in our sustainable push where we will bring the STCC to an audience that normally is unable to visit one of our races at traditional circuits and our ambition is to have at least three city events per sesason,” said Micke Bern, managing director of STCC.

One of the drivers who will be on the starting grid in Gothenburg next weekend is Exion Racing driver Alexander Graff who lives in Uppsala.

“I want a home race and there are a lot of cities that have expressed interest in the STCC. There are a bit too many speed bumps in Uppsala, but imagine racing in the city centre, I’m sure we could find a good location,” said Graff with a smile.

Representatives from Uppsala will visit the Gothenburg season opener in preparation for a potential race in 2025 or 2026.
