FIA TCR World Tour set for Australia, Mexico and Panama in expanded 2025 calendar
The FIA TCR World Tour is set to head for Australia, Mexico and Panama in 2025 while the USA and Uruguay are likely to be axed.
A total of nine race weekends are planned for the coming season, an expansion from this year’s seven.
“The first thing confirmed is that we will not go to the United States,” said Marcello Lott, head of WSC, in an interview with Motores En Punta.
“Our idea – but we are in talks – would be three dates on the European block that includes Morocco, three dates on the South American continent that would include Mexico and three dates on the Asian block with the intention of returning to Australia and repeating Macau.”
TCR Mexico was established as a class within the Copa Notiauto Mexico this year in a three-year agreement with WSC, the TCR rights holders, a likely factor to the addition of Mexico for 2025.
“Before arriving in Uruguay, I met in Mexico and also in Panama,” said Lotti.
“We are interested in expanding the TCR concept in new regions and reaching it with the World Championship. I would say that today the strongest is Mexico but we will continue evaluating other countries on the continent as well.”
The FIA TCR World Tour raced in Uruguay last weekend for the second year in succession which could be its last.
“Everything is possible. If we have a calendar of nine dates, the possibilities increase,” said Lotti on whether Uruguay will be back for 2025.
“If we have a final calendar of eight dates, it is a little more difficult because Mexico already has one place and this year Brazil worked very well. But I repeat, nothing is agreed until the end of August when we put together the calendar and inform the FIA.”
