Zhang Zhen Dong sweeps TCR China premiere in Shanghai
Zhang Zhen Dong claimed both victories of the 2025 TCR China season opener at the Shanghai International Circuit.
The Hyundai driver started from pole in the first race and quickly extended his lead over Lynk & Co driver David Zhu who made a strong start from fourth on the grid.
The safety ar was called into action on lap eight due to an incident further down the field.
As the racing resumed, Zhu came under pressure from Audi driver Wu Yifan who snatched second place and enabled Jason Zhang to claim the final podium position.
Zhang Zhen Dong won the race by just over three seconds over 326 Racing Team driver Wu Yifan while the Teamwork Motorsport duo of Jason Zhang and Zhu claimed positions three and four.
Henry Ho rounded off the top five for Honda team MacPro Racing Team, six seconds from the lead.
Tang Chi Lun (Honda) started from the reversed grid pole of Race 2 but immediately stalled and dropped down the order.
That handed the lead to Sunny Wong (Lynk & Co) who started from second place on the grid.
Zhang Zhen Dong made strong progress during the first part of the race from tenth on the grid and made contact with Wu Yifan who spun off track on the opening lap and later retired from the race.
Zhang Zhen Dong continued his charge and was able to put pressure on Zhu (Lynk & Co), who had worked his way up into the lead, with three laps left of the race.
The Hyundai driver made the move on Zhu for the lead on lap eight and was able to claim victory with a margin of almost two seconds.
Jason Zhang came home in third while Henry Ho (Honda) was a distant fourth, 14 seconds from the leaders.
Huang Ying (Hyundai) and Wong (Lynk & Co) rounded off the top six.
Zhang Zhen Dong heads the standings on 90 points while Zhu is second on 66 points.
The next round takes place at Zhejiang on May 10-11.
