Aurélien Comte heads second FIA TCR World Tour practice in Mexico
Aurélien Comte put his SP Compétition prepared Cupra at the top of the second free practice session of the FIA TCR World Tour opener at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico.
The session start was delayed by close to an hour due to an issue with the time keeping system.
Comte was fastest by some margin, beating closest rival and Lynk & Co 03 TCR FL driver Santiago Urrutia by 0.338 seconds. But the Frenchman’s best time was still close to two tenths slower than the one set by Esteban Guerrieri during the first practice session.
Urrutia headed Cyan Racing team-mates Yann Ehrlacher and Thed Björk who were 0.451 and 0.676 seconds behind respectively in positions three and four.
FIA TCR World Tour newcomer Ignacio Montenegro was fastest of the Honda drivers in fifth place, eight tenths from Comte’s time, before a transmission issue meant that he had to sit out the final part of the session.
Reigning TCR Mexico champion Rodrigo Rejón claimed position six ahead of lead Hyundai driver Mikel Azcona who was 0.882 seconds from Comte’s time.
Ma Qing Hua (Lynk & Co) set the eighth fastest time for Cyan Racing while John Filippi (Cupra) and Guerrieri (Honda), who topped the first session, rounded off the top ten.
Next up for the FIA TCR World Tour field is qualifying, starting at 09:30 local time/17:30 CEST on Friday.
