Thed Björk inherits victory as Yann Ehrlacher is penalised
Thed Björk has inherited victory of the first FIA TCR World Tour race in Mexico as Yann Ehrlacher was penalised for breaching track limits when overtaking Santiago Urrutia for the lead.
The Frenchman was handed a ten-second penalty for exceeding track limits at Turn 1 on lap 13 when passing his Cyan Racing team-mate after a long fight for the lead.
The penalty drops Ehrlacher to third, elevating Björk to first and Urrutia to second.
Björk is also the new leader of the drivers’ standings on 38 points following the updated result, with Esteban Guerrieri second on 35 points and Ehrlacher third with 32 points.
The second race of the weekend in Mexico starts at 11:30 local time/19:30 CEST on Saturday, with Hyundai driver Mikel Azcona starting from the reversed grid pole position after finishing tenth in Race 1.
