Deng and Zhang wins at Shanghai as title becomes internal Teamworks battle

Deng Bao Wei and Jason Zhang claimed one win each in the penultimate TCR China round at Shanghai International Circuit while the drivers’ title fight has become an internal battle within Teamwork Motorsport Lynk & Co.

Z.Speed Hyundai selected to not enter Zhang Zhen Dong for this round and he was the only other driver with a shot at the title, meaning that the title fight stands between Teamwork Motorsport drivers David Zhu and Zhang.

Zhu started the first race from pole and found himself in a battle with team-mate Zhang for the lead.

The battle ended in disaster as the two Lynk & Co drivers collided on lap seven, dropping Zhang to tenth place while Zhu was able to recover to finish second.

This handed the lead to MacPro Racing Honda driver Deng who claimed his first TCR China win ahead of Zhu and Paul Poon.

The second race had Huang Ying on pole position, but the Hyundai driver dropped down the order to finish tenth.

Instead the lead battle stood between title rivals Zhang and Zhu of Teamwork Motorsport who started the race from eighth and tenth place respectively.

Zhang was able to come out on top despite two safety car sessions to win the race with a slim margin over Zhu while Poon rounded off the podium.

Zhu heads the standings on 381 points while Zhang is 24 points adrift in second place ahead of the Zhuzhou season finale on November 1-2.
