David Zhu beats Jason Zhang to TCR China title by 1 point

Jason Zhang won both races of the TCR China season finale at Zhuzhou, but it was not enough to beat Teamwork Motorsport team-mate David Zhu who clinched the 2025 title by a single point.

Zhang started the first race from pole as claimed the lead as the lights went out ahead of tem-mates Paul Poon and Zhu.

Zhang pulled away in the lead while Poon and Zhu fought for second place.

But the race ended on lap eight for Poon as he had to retire with a broken radiator due to contact with his team-mate.

This brought out the safety car and the restart saw Zhu putting hard pressure on his team-mate in the fight for the lead.

But Zhang held fast to claim victory by less than a second over his team-mate and title rival.

Sunny Wong made it a Lynk & Co 1-2-3 in third place ahead of 326 Racing Team team-mates Liu Zi Chen and Wu Yi Fan.

The second reversed grid race saw Man Siu Ming and Hu Heng starting from the front row.

But the man on the move in Race 2 was Zhang who rapidly climbed up the order to challenge for the lead.

The race was interrupted by the safety car no less than four times.

The first came as Li Guan Hua stopped on track following a collision with Frederick Lee Fu Kwan in the fight for the podium positions.

The second session came on lap four as Zhou Yun Jie came to a halt on track due to a technical issue.

The third safety car period came on lap eight following an incident between He Yuan and Lau Ying Kit which saw the latter retiring from the race.

The fourth and final safety car session came with just two laps left as Honda driver Tommy Ku Siu Lam made a mistake and went off track.

The race resumed with just a single lap left.

And this lap was crucial for Lynk & Co driver Zhu who managed to claw his way up from seventh to fourth place as the chequered flag fell, securing enough points to beat team-mate Zhang to the drivers’ title.

Zhang won the race by close to four seconds ahead of Team TRC Honda driver Frederick Lee Fu Kwan while Hyundai driver Hu Heng clinched the final podium position.
