Ryan MacMillan: “I was actually surprised with my pace”

HMO Customer Racing driver Ryan MacMillan faced a steep learning curve during the 2025 FIA TCR World Tour season finale in Macau and broke into the top ten in the final race.

“We started pretty good, first practice I was actually surprised with my pace,” MacMillan told TouringCarTimes.

“I had a goal to be within five seconds, because of course it’s Macau, the gaps here are pretty big, so I think I was 4.8, so pretty happy.”

But the young Australian soon found out that the Macau Guia circuit can quickly bite back.

“Free practice two started well but I had a contact with the walls and that ended our session,” said MacMillan.

“Then was the qualifying, we knew we had the pace, we just had to put the car together. Started off, Q1 hit the wall at Mandarin and crashed but, luckily, didn’t do too much damage.

“The boys got it fixed up for Race 1, we started from P15, it was a good race, managed to move forward a couple of positions, but still struggled a bit with the car setup because of the heat, which we didn’t expect, really.”

MacMillan finished 13th in the first race and then a strong ninth in the second race, hoping for further FIA TCR World Tour outings next year.

“Sunday came, we made some changes to the car and it was quick and paid off finishing ninth from 15th, so big thanks to the team for the work of the weekend,” said MacMillan.

“As a team, we’d love to be back in the TCR World Tour, we have to find a way with money and we know they want us to come back because we are competitive, so we will see.”
