Viktor Andersson claims opening pole position at Jarama
Viktor Andersson scored the first pole position of the 2026 TCR Spain season, taking place this weekend at Jarama.
Honda’s Sten-Dorian Piirimägi led the time sheets in the initial stages of the Q1, with Audi drivers Erik Zabala and Luke Sargeant rising to the top immediately behind the Estonian.
The Cupras of Manuel Fernandes, Viktor Andersson and Sandro Pelatti soon got into the fight, with Victor Fernández climbing to second place. Series newcomer Busian Fontán settled in sixth place, before the final attempt in the Q1.
Piirimägi led the Q1 followed by Andersson, Fernández and Fernandes. Zabala sat in fifth position, with Fontan next, alongside Pelatti, René Polvsen, Sargeant and Mathieu Casalonga completing the top ten.
Demir Erög, eleventh, and Alvaro Rodríguez, twelfth, also secured their pass onto the Q2.
Piirimägi quickly rose to the top in the initial stages, but Andersson pipped the Estonian by three-tenths with five minutes to go, with a lap time of 1:37.195.
Andersson remained unbeaten, claiming the pole position followed by Piirimägi and Zabala, six-tenths behind the Swede.
Fernandes qualified in fourth place, 1.1 seconds off the pace, with Fernández in fifth, a further half-second adrift.
Pelatti was sixth, followed by Sargeant, already two seconds behind the pole position, with Polvsen just seven-hundredths behind. Fontan and Eröge completed the top ten.
The TCR Spain field returns to the track on Sunday morning for Race 1, scheduled at 11:30 CET.
