Ash Sutton: “It’s been another flawless weekend”

Ash Sutton remains at the top of the British Touring Car Championship standings after extending his advantage to 57 points at Snetterton.

The Alliance Racing driver entered the weekend with a 47-point lead but that soon began to be eroded after he failed to finish Saturday’s Qualifying Race.

Starting from the back of the grid in race one, the Ford Focus Titanium driver charged to tenth in race one before then bolting on the soft tyre and fighting his way to a fourth win of the season in race two.

The 32-year-old then closed out his weekend in style with another strong performance as he went from seventh to second in the reverse grid finale.

“It’s been another faultless weekend,” said Sutton. “Considering we were in the pit lane on Saturday and starting at the back of the for race one today, to come away having extended the lead is a mega result.

“We took the pain of running the medium tyre with little to no boost in race one and managed to fight our way forward to tenth. We didn’t really have the car in the window – owing to the fact we didn’t get much running yesterday – so we threw a load of changes at the thing for race two.

“The car came alive in that second race and to win by the margin we did was great. To then round it off with another podium in race three was the cherry on top.”

Looking ahead to Oulton Park, he continued: “We’ve got to keep pushing because things can turn around very quickly – it only takes two races and suddenly the gap is gone.

“Oulton Park is going to be a tough one because the boost plays such an important part around the lap. It’ll be a case of just optimising the set up and then making the best of what we have.”
