Charles Rainford pleased to grab first WSR win of the season
Charles Rainford was pleased to be back towards the front of the field in the British Touring Car Championship as he grabbed a first win of the season for WSR at Snetterton.
After charging onto the podium at the Donington Park curtain-raiser, the BWM 330i M Sport driver endured a frustrating outing at Brands Hatch – but he bounced back in style in Norfolk.
Winning Saturday’s Qualifying Race, the rear-wheel-drive ace converted his front-row start in race one into a flawless light-to-flag victory. He then added two more top ten finishes to round out a stellar day behind the wheel.
As a result, Rainford has now moved up to third in both the overall Drivers’ Championship and fourth in the Independent Drivers’ Championship.
Reflecting on the weekend, Rainford said: “It’s been a great day with a race win to add to yesterday’s Qualifying Race win, two Fastest Laps, top points scorer this weekend… all the things we absolutely love when they happen, plus I’m back up to third in the championship.
“It was really hot today, which definitely suited our BMW. The only negative is that we could have been a little bit higher in the last race, but overall it’s been fabulous and it’s nice to be back towards the front, where we should be.”
