Alain Menu gets drivers’ advisor role for FIA TCR World Tour
Former BTCC champion Alain Menu will replace Pedro Lamy as drivers’ advisor for the FIA TCR World Tour race weekends in Valencia, Paul Ricard, Chengdu and Zhuzhou.
“I’m very much looking forward to Valencia,” said Menu.
“It will be very interesting to have a chat with the Stewards before the racing begins and hear what they expect from me. What’s intrigues me is to find out how it is from their side of the room, because in my racing career I have only been the other side of the fence…”
The Swiss driver claimed the 1997 and 2000 British Touring Car Championship titles for Renault and Ford and raced in the FIA World Touring Car Championship from 2005 to 2012 for Chevrolet.
“The most funny thing will be meeting Yann Ehrlacher as a racing driver, since the last time I saw him, he was a kid visiting his uncle Yvan Muller, my teammate at the Chevrolet WTCC team!” said Menu.
Asked whether he think touring car racing has changed since he last raced, Menu answered:
“Frankly I don’t know, because I haven’t followed motorsport in latest years,” said Menu.
“But drivers are drivers, so I don’t expect any change in the way they behave at the wheel. For sure my experience will massively help me to understand their behaviour and realise if it’s malicious.
“My approach will be looking out carefully and form my opinion in case I am asked for it.”
