Adam Morgan clinches pole position for Knockhill Qualifying Race

Adam Morgan will start this afternoon’s British Touring Car Championship Qualifying Race from pole position after setting the benchmark time during qualifying at Knockhill.

The Plato Racing driver emerged as the driver to beat in Group 1, setting a best time of 50.830s around the undulating Scottish circuit to secure top spot for the upcoming 17-lap contest.

Home hero Gordon Shedden led the way in Group 2 but ultimately fell just three hundredths of a second short of Morgan’s time. That means that the Toyota Corolla racer will line up alongside Morgan on the front row of the grid in second place.

As per the series’ format for this season, the group with the pole-setting lap time will occupy the odd-numbered grid positions for the Qualifying Race, while the other group occupy the even-numbered grid positions. Both are ordered by their qualifying times.

Starting from third on the grid will be the sister Plato Racing of Dan Rowbottom and he’ll be joined on the second row of the grid by the Restart Racing Hyundai Chris Smiley.

WSR’s Charles Rainford led the line for BMW to secure fifth, narrowly ahead of his team-mate Daryl De Leon.

Completing the top ten was Aiden Moffat, Ricky Collard, James Dorlin and Independent leader Mikey Doble.

Further back, championship contenders Ash Sutton and Tom Ingram will both start from outside the top ten, with Ingram the highest placed of the two.
