Ash Sutton stretches BTCC points lead at Knockhill

Ash Sutton sits more than a full weekend’s worth of points clear at the top of the British Touring Car Championship standings after enjoying a sublime outing at Knockhill.

Following an action-packed outing at the Scottish venue – which included a seventh win of the season for the four-time champion – the Alliance Racing driver now holds an 81-point advantage over Tom Ingram.

Under the current points-scoring system for the UK’s premier motorsport series, the maximum amount of points that can be scored on a single weekend is 76.

Sutton arrived at the Scottish venue with a 59-point buffer over the reigning champion however he was able to extend that margin by a further 22 points by claiming a fourth, a win and 12th in Sunday’s three contests.

Those results, coupled with a non-finish for Ingram in race two, means that the Ford Focus Titanium driver holds a healthy lead heading back to Donington Park in two weeks time.

Elsewhere, Alliance Racing/Ford remain the dominant force in the Manufacturers/Constructors Championship, while NAPA Racing UK remain on course for yet another Teams’ Championship title.

In the Independents’ Trophy, Mikey Doble and Power Maxed Racing continue to occupy top spot in both the Drivers’ and Teams’ categories. They also lead the way in the Jack Sears Trophy courtesy of Dexter Patterson.
