Tom Chilton charges to first win of the season

Tom Chilton became the tenth different winner of the season in the British Touring Car Championship after claiming a comfortable lights-to-flag victory in the reverse grid finale at Knockhill.

Starting from pole position virtue of the reverse grid draw, the EXCELR8 driver produced a virtuoso performance to triumph ahead of Adam Morgan and Dan Cammish.

Running the more preferable soft tyre, Chilton made the best start of the front runners and with a clear road ahead of him, the Hyundai driver was wheel-perfect as he romped home.

Plato Racing’s Morgan rounded out one of the best day’s of his career in the championship by charging to second place, having started eighth. Like Chilton, Morgan had the soft tyre bolted onto his Mercedes and he made the most of it as he carved his way through the field.

Muscling his way into second on lap nine, the Lancashire driver quickly settled into a groove and shadowed Chilton all the way to the chequered flag.

Alliance Racing’s Cammish was the highest-placed driver on the medium tyre as he ended the day with a podium. Cammish had originally scrapped with his Ford Focus team-mates Lewis Selby and Sam Osborne before eventually coming out on top.

Power Maxed Racing’s Dexter Patterson recorded his best result to-date in the BTCC as he held off Charles Rainford to clinch fourth, with the second WSR BMW 330i M Sport of Daryl De Leon completing the top six.

Further down the order, Dan Rowbottom and Josh Cook enjoyed an almighty scrap for seventh and eighth. Behind them was Ricky Collard and reigning champion Tom Ingram, who rounded out the top ten.

Championship leader Ash Sutton endured a somewhat bruising encounter as he valiantly battled to bank points in 12th place.
