Adam Morgan on pole for Donington Park Qualifying Race

Adam Morgan will start this afternoon’s British Touring Car Championship Qualifying Race at Donington Park from pole position after setting the fastest lap of anyone around the Grand Prix circuit in qualifying.

Featuring in Group 1, the CPRL driver set a best time of 1:32.654s around the 2.49-mile East Midlands track to secure a starting spot at the very front of the field for the impending nine-lap contest.

Speedworks Motorsport’s Josh Cook led the way in Group 2 but was ultimately three tenths of a second short of Morgan’s time. That means that the Toyota Corolla racer will line up alongside Knockhill race winner on the front row of the grid in second place.

As per the series’ format for this season, the group with the pole-setting lap time will occupy the odd-numbered grid positions for the Qualifying Race, while the other group occupy the even-numbered grid positions. Both are ordered by their qualifying times.

Starting from third on the grid will be the second CPRL Mercedes of Dan Rowbottom, and joining him on the second row is the MB Motorsport Toyota of three-time champion Gordon Shedden.

Dan Cammish – sporting a new Valvoline livery on his Ford Focus Titanium will start third, narrowly ahead of the third Toyota of Aron Taylor-Smith, who had occupied top spot in Group 2 with just a few minutes remaining.

Championship leader Ash Sutton, Independent front-runner Mikey Doble, Jack Sears Trophy pace-setter Dexter Patterson and Daryl De Leon compete the top ten.

Two drivers that struggled to make an impact towards the front of the field was reigning champion Tom Ingram and WSR’s Charles Rainford. Both will start towards the rear of the grid.

The BTCC’s Qualifying Race from Donington Park is scheduled to commence at 15:05 and can be viewed via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btsyb5-yGWM.
