Adam Morgan doubles up in Donington Park finale

Adam Morgan made it two wins from three races in the British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park as he cruised to victory in a feisty reverse grid finale.

The CPRL driver started the contest on the outside of the front row and after shadowing pole-sitter Chris Smiley during the opening lap, the Mercedes man wasted no time in muscling his way into the lead.

Getting a superior run out of the Old Hairpin on lap two, Morgan drew alongside the Hyundai of Smiley on the run up to Schwantz Curve before completing the move going into McLeans. From there, Morgan cruised to a commanding third win of the season.

The battle for the remaining podium places proved to be highly entertaining with Aiden Moffat enjoying his strongest showing of the season in the Power Maxed Racing Audi.

Moffat was quick to dispatch Smiley and then ran untroubled in second place all the way to the chequered flag. Completing the podium was the lead WSR BMW of Daryl De Leon.

De Leon took a handful of laps to find his groove but when he did, he became to one to watch as he firstly dispatched the hard tyre Audi of Dexter Patterson before then rapidly closing in on the Toyota of Aron Taylor-Smith.

After relinquishing third to De Leon, Taylor-Smith enjoyed a relatively trouble-free drive to finish fourth while behind him, an almighty battle for fifth raged.

Three-time champion Gordon Shedden once again showcased his defensive prowess behind the wheel as he withstood late pressure from championship leader Ash Sutton and Charles Rainford to secure the position.

It wasn’t until the final lap that the Alliance Racing driver picked his pocket with a bold move down the inside at Redgate. That move secured Sutton fifth, and Charles Rainford snatched sixth from Shedden on the run to the line.

Sutton had endured his fair share of action having gone wheel-to-wheel with reigning champion Tom Ingram through the Old Hairpin earlier in the contest.

Ingram would keep his Hyundai moving and spent the remainder of the bout scrapping with Josh Cook. Rounding out the top ten was Patterson in his Audi A3 Saloon.
