Dan Cammish pleased to maximise Saturday at Croft

Dan Cammish says he maximised his day in the British Touring Car Championship at Croft after a securing a second place finish in the Race To Pole.

After enjoying a strong showing in Free Practice at his home circuit, the Alliance Racing driver emerged as the driver to beat in qualifying as he topped the times in Group 1.

There was initially contention around Cammish’s starting position for the qualifying race as he originally lost his fastest time due to exceeding track limits. However, after contesting the decision he was reinstated and started in second for the 11-lap bout.

Slotting in behind pole sitter Josh Cook as the lights went out, Cammish shadowed the Toyota Corolla driver all the way to the chequered flag, while his team-mate and championship leader Ash Sutton sat behind him in third.

“It’s been a good day and second is a great result,” said Cammish. “With the TOCA Turbo Boost allocation, there was always going to be a little disparity between myself and Josh. He’s tough to beat at the best of times so I knew we had to dig deep.

“I feel like we’ve maximised the day, that’s for sure. NAPA Racing UK have given me a great car and I think we a few little tweaks overnight, myself and Ash can have another shot at taking on Josh tomorrow.”

Looking ahead to race day at the North Yorkshire venue, Cammish was quick to point out that both the soft and the hard tyre will play their part in the outcome of each contest.

“There is a huge tyre disparity tomorrow,” he said. “I’ve been on the soft tyre to hard tyre pendulum before and it isn’t very nice. We have to race for the points in front of us so we will no doubt go for softs in race one and then play it from there. It’s gonna be an interesting day.”
