Dan Rowbottom fastest in Silverstone practice

Dan Rowbottom set the pace in the British Touring Car Championship practice session at Silverstone, edging out Mikey Doble by a 0.022 of a second.

The CPRL driver posted a succession of quick laps late on around the Home of the British Motor Racing, with his best being a 56.776s in his Mercedes-AMG A35 Saloon.

In-keeping with every session that typically takes place on the 1.64-mile National circuit, small margins rans throughout the field – and this was no different with less than a second covering the top 20 cars.

Power Maxed Racing’s Doble ended the session hustling his Audi A3 Saloon to second place while Charles Rainford was best of the rest in third, with the WSR driver having enjoyed a solid run behind the wheel of his BMW 330i M Sport.

Adam Morgan was fourth in the second CPRL Mercedes, narrowly ahead of Josh Cook who completed the top-five in his Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Corolla..

Next up in sixth was the EXCELR8 Hyundai of Tom Chilton – who is this weekend running a TOCA engine – and hot on his heels was Daniel Lloyd. Completing the top-ten behind them was the trio of Aiden Moffat, Daryl De Leon and Gordon Shedden.

A notable absentee from the top-ten included championship leader Ash Sutton, who was clearly honing his car ahead of this afternoon’s all-important qualifying sessions.

Series debutant Osamu Kawashima – who has stepped into the Hyundai formerly driven by Ricky Collard for the final two rounds – got his first taste of action as he clocked a total of 31 laps; with his fastest time being three seconds shy of Rowbottom’s benchmark.

Qualifying at Silverstone is scheduled to begin at 14:05 this afternoon, prior to the Qualifying Race starting at 15:05.
