Swindon Powertrain and EXCELR8 set to conclude engine partnership
Swindon Powertrain and EXCELR8 look set to conclude their current engine partnership in the British Touring Car Championship following the season finale at Brands Hatch this weekend.
The engine manufacturer has been a feature on the BTCC grid since 2010, developing the first-generation TOCA engine for the championship’s new NGTC era.
Most recently, Swindon Powertrain has developed, manufactured and supported the Hyundai programme, helping to guide Tom Ingram to his two Drivers’ titles in 2022 and 2025 in particular.
“We are extremely proud of the contribution made by the entire team at Swindon Powertrain, and we would like to thank everyone in the BTCC for the success we have enjoyed together,” said Swindon Powertrain CEO, Raphaël Caillé, in a statement.
“The performance, reliability and cost efficiency of our engines have enabled more drivers and teams to challenge for titles, helping the BTCC remain one of the most demanding and competitive touring car championships in the world.”
“Motorsport is always evolving. Changing regulations and long-term commercial considerations inevitably influence technical direction and supplier choices.
“We are proud of the value and competitiveness our package has delivered over many years, and we look back on our time in the BTCC with enormous pride and gratitude.”
As it stands, there are no firm plans for Swindon Powertrains to feature on the BTCC grid in 2027, although it remains open to returning to the series.
Caillé added: “We’ve gained considerable experience, brought numerous innovations to the series and will be ready to win again with the right partner.”
