Ricky Collard wins final race of the season
Ricky Collard charged to victory in the final round of the British Touring Car Championship season at Brands Hatch.
Bringing the curtain down on yet another blockbuster campaign, the EXCELR8 driver claimed his first-ever win in the series ahead of Dan Cammish and five-time champion Ash Sutton.
The race began in action-packed fashion as two separate incidents took place as the field streamed down Paddock Hill Bend.
Th first began at the top of the hill with Tom Ingram, Tom Chilton and Nick Halstead all finding the gravel while at the bottom, Lewis Selby and Dan Rowbottom clashed, leaving Selby beached and out of the race.
Following a lengthy safety car period, the race restarted with Collard at the head of the field however all eyes were on five-time champion Ash Sutton as he firstly dispatched team-mate Cammish and then Patterson.
Closing onto the back of leader Collard in no time at all, the Ford Focus Titanium driver filled the mirrors of Collard and made his move as they headed into Westfield, only to be squeezed onto the grass which dropped back to ninth.
A second safety car period to allow for Dan Rowbottom’s brakes to be extinguished set up a grandstand finish with Collard fighting off the advances of Cammish.
Sutton made sure that his charge wasn’t over though as he fought his way back up the order to finish hot on the heels of Cammish and Collard.
Jack Sears Trophy champion Dexter Patterson matched his best result of the year by finishing fourth ahead of Aiden Moffat, Adam Morgan, Dan Lloyd, Gordon Shedden and Independents champion Mikey Doble.
