Former F1 driver Vitantonio Liuzzi is the final international driver to join the V8 Supercars field in the Surfers Paradise race.
“I’m happy to be back in the series that keeps growing and is ultra-competitive,” said Liuzzi.
The Italian is going to, just as in 2011, drive with Tony D’Alberto in the number 3 Team HIFLEX Ford Falcon.
“V8 Supercars is always a dream category to me because I really enjoyed last year and performance and speed were good so I hope to repeat and become even stronger this year. I see that the team and Tony are having a stronger championship than last year so I hope we can aim for a big result,” said Liuzzi.
Liuzzi stopped racing in F1 after the 2011 season and has since then been racing in the Superstars series for CAAL Racing in a Mercedes C63 AMG. The Italian heads the championship with three races to go.
Team HIFLEX owner and driver D’Alberto is confident that Liuzzi is going to be a strong team mate in the race this year.
“When he came out last time, he was a current Formula 1 driver. Now that he has spent the year inside a tin top, I am sure that he will be even more competitive,” said D’Alberto.
