Stat Attack: BTCC Rounds 4-6, Donington Park

A week has now passed since the BTCC headed to Donington Park for the second meeting of the season, so it seemed like a good time to reflect on the main statistics that came out of the weekend.

The spreadsheets revealed some interesting information from both qualifying and race day, as can be seen below…

Qualifying

Ashley Sutton gave MG its first pole position since Brands Hatch GP in 2014, becoming the second first time pole sitter in as many meetings.

Sutton also became the 13th driver to secure a pole position in an NGTC-spec car.

With two qualifying sessions complete, Sutton tops the qualifying average with third place, alongside Tom Ingram and Gordon Shedden.

Ingram, Shedden, Sutton, Josh Cook, Matt Neal, Mat Jackson, Jack Goff and Aron Smith are the only drivers with a 100% record when it comes to qualifying inside the top ten this season.

Josh Cook qualified on the front row for the first time in his BTCC career.

Jake Hill and Hunter Abbott matched their career best qualifying performances.

Discounting Croft 2008, Oulton Park 2010 and Snetterton 2014 (where he didn’t set a time), Andrew Jordan failed to qualify inside the top 20 for the first time in his BTCC career.

Race Day

Josh Cook secured the best result of his BTCC career.

Handy Motorsport secured its best BTCC result for the second successive meeting.

Jason Plato endured a pointless weekend for the first time since the second meeting of the 2004 season.

Plato has also now failed to score in four successive races for the first time in his BTCC career.

Adam Morgan failed to complete a race distance for the first time since race one at Silverstone back in 2014

Only eleven of the 32 drivers to appear so far this season have now completed every racing lap.

The 29 laps led at Donington Park mean Mat Jackson has now led more laps than anyone else this season, one ahead of Tom Ingram and two clear of Adam Morgan.

Sam Tordoff is the only driver to lead a race and not yet take victory

A total of 17 bonus points have been handed out so far this season to ten drivers for pole position, leading a lap or fastest laps. Tom Ingram and Mat Jackson have three apiece, with Adam Morgan, Jack Goff and Sam Tordoff all on two.

Gordon Shedden moved to within one of a landmark 60th NGTC podium.

Following Donington Park, drivers have now raced for 195.58 miles this season, 13.62 miles more than if each race had run to its scheduled distance. There have also been 130 racing laps completed, compared to the 120 that were scheduled.
