Matt Neal to race at Bathurst in 2008
Matt Neal will compete in the V8 Supercar Endurance races in a Paul Morris Motorsport Commodore this year.
Neal, a former two-time British Touring Car Champion, and Boris Said, an expert NASCAR racer, will join forces in a second Supercheap Auto Racing Commodore VE at the Phillip Island 500 and the Bathurst 1000 for 2008.
SCAR team owner Paul Morris confirmed that the deals have been agreed to and he is looking forward to them racing with his team.
“They’ll go good”, he said. “They are both very tall so no one is going to mess with them! Boris has raced at the Nurburgring, he’s raced a lot of things and it’s something he wants to do. He always said he wanted to come to Australia and race a V8 Supercar and when I bumped into him at Daytona last week he said he wanted to do it”.
While Said will be a V8 rookie, Matt Neal isn’t. The BTCC racer, who currenty drives for 888 in the UK, made his V8 debut at Oran Park in 2000 (and crashed the car in practice). He also raced with Morris in the endurance races, Morris is confident that he will do a good job.
“Matt is a good mate and I wouldn’t put him in the car if I didn’t think he could do it. I want him to do well”.
The pair are said to be be able to attend at least three of the four official test days each, and may even get to drive the cars in the rookie/endurance driver practice sessions at four of the early season events.
