Chris Pither stands in at Team Kiwi
Team Kiwi Racing is to give Chris Pither a drive in the second round of the V8 Supercar Championship at Eastern Creek Raceway this weekend.
Chris is to stand in for fellow New Zealander Kayne Scott as he fulfills his racing obligations in the final round of the NZV8 Championship at Invercargill the same weekend.
This will be a return to the top flight V8 Supercars for the young Kiwi driver as he takes over the drive for Scott in the TKR All Black Ford. Pither’s first taste of the V8 Superca Championship was in 2006 when he again stood in for a fellow Kiwi.
On that occassion he stood in for Paul Radisich at the Bahrain round in 2006. Radisich was recovering from injuries he recieved in his massive Bathurst crash.
Pither has driven in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Development Series for the last two years but was unable to put a successful sponsorship package together to fund a fulltime drive this year.
“I don’t think many people appreciate just how difficult it is to break into this Australian V8 Supercar Championship as an up and coming driver,” Pither said.
“The opportunity to get into the TKR car at Eastern Creek is a great chance for me to show my potential on the big stage and I am very appreciative of this drive.”
“Chris drove just as the team asked him to at Bahrain in 2006 and did a very good job all weekend. We know we have a good car and we are sure he will do the job for us,” Team Kiwi Racing owner David John said.
“As an up and coming Kiwi driver with recent V8 Supercar experience who needed a break to jump start his 2008 season, Pither was an easy decision to fill Scott’s seat for the one off round and we wish him all the best for Eastern Creek.”
