Winterbottom wins race two in Ipswich
Ford Performance Racing’s wonder-boy Mark Winterbottom, won race two of the City of Ipswich 400 at Queensland Raceway.
Winterbottom made a better start than race one winner James Courtney leading into turn one, Russel Ingall gave Holden their best result for a while as he held on to take second place.
Only the compulsory pit stops that denied Winterbottom the lead during the race which was quickly retuned to him after eveyone had completed their stops.
Supercheap’s Russell Ingall dropped a place at the start but was determind to regain it. It didn’t take him long as it was on only lap 3 that he managed to do so. Ingall slotted into the second place after making time up during the pit stops.
Jamie Whincup in his team Team Vodafone Falcon followed home in third, ahead of the Holden of Garth Tander and the Jim Beam Racing Ford Falcon of Will Davidson, both which Whincup passed in the latter stages of the race.
Race one winner James Courtney’s race took a turn for the worst from the start where he lost his place to Winterbottom. dropping another place to Tander even before the first lap was finished. Courtney was eventually to finish sixth.
Team mate to Witerbottom, Steven Richards was seventh, despite dropping seven places after a coming-together with Mark Skaife on lap 10.
Richards took a long time to take his pit stop allowing him the make up a lot of time. eventually passing both eighth and ninth finishing cars of Cameron McConville in his Team WOW Commodore and Fabian Coulthard in his Glenford’s Racing Falcon.
Mark Skaife recovered to take the tenth spot.
