Jason Bright rues late safety car

Jason Bright believes it was possible for BJR to have won their first Bathurst 1000 as TeamVodafone and HRT only just made it to the end on fuel, saved by a late safety car to recover Will Davison’s Holden.

Jason Bright had qualified on provisional pole on Friday, but couldn’t replicate that pace in the shootout and started from eighth place.

A late race charge saw Bright get the car, co-driven with New Zealander Matt Halliday, up to fourth place at the finish – with the BJR team along with SBR was getting the best fuel economy out of the car during the race.

“I’m led to believe from the guys in the team that they were in a fair bit of a trouble down there (TeamVodafone, HRT),” said Bright to TouringCarTimes

“From what I hear or believe, we were probably one of the only ones that were going to make it on fuel.”

“Our fuel economy was good, we probably knocked a bit too much power out I think to get that. We struggled with power, I’m impressed we did the fastest lap of the race considering we just didn’t have any grunt to pass anyone all day.”
