Swedish driver Fredrik Lestrup to Dunlop V8 Supercar Series
Fredrik Lestrup becomes the second Swedish driver on the Australian V8 racing scene this year as he joins Rsport RACE Engineering for the Dunlop V8 Supercar Series.
”This is a dream come true and a fantastic but also difficult challenge,” said Fredrik.
The 29-year-old, who tested for the team late last year, is going to drive full season for the team in a 2012 specification Holden Commodore.
”I was impressed with Fredrik’s professional approach and desire to succeed. He quickly reached the potential of the car and the tires given to him for the day. We left with a principal agreement for 2014 and I am very happy we together have managed to find the required funding both in Europe and Australia for this season. We are very pleased to be able to announce that Fredrik will drive for us in 2014,” said team owner Mark Robertson.
The Dunlop V8 Supercar Series starts in Adelaide as support class to main championship V8 Supercars on March 2nd and Lestrup is humble ahead of his challenge.
”Not only is the track completely new to me but the car is too, and I will be up against competitors who know these tracks and cars a lot better. I know I’m in for a huge challenge but to say I’m motivated and looking forward to this is an understatement, I can’t wait to get this started. I will be up against drivers with many years of experience from both the Dunlop series and the main series but I will of course do my best to be competitive and progress through the year and gain experience,” said Lestrup.
Lestrup has previously raced in the Swedish Touring Car Championship and most recently in European endurance GT racing championships such as VLN and Swedish GT.
