Dale Wood delighted to be back on the right track after qualifying
Britek Motorsport’s Dale Wood qualified in third position for the Bathurst 1000km, and ensures all three cars run by Brad Jones Racing will be in the top ten shootout on Saturday, after Jason Bright qualified in sixth and Fabian Coulthard on provisional pole in the sister Holden Commodores.
Dale Wood was the last driver to set his time in the session, and jumped into third position, knocking the Holden Racing Team driver James Courtney out of the top ten and into 11th position.
The reigning V8 Supercars Development Series champion was delighted with his performance, following a tough few months, with the highlight of his season so far a third place at Winton back in April, but with only one top ten finish besides that.
“I wasn’t happy yesterday, I was on the radio so many times saying just get me out, I don’t want to get back in it, it was really tough to hang on to,” said Wood. “So it was really refreshing to talk to Fabian (Coulthard) and Brighty (Jason Bright) and a couple of the other boys and hear that everyone was having similar problems, as just trying to get one lap out of (the car) was pretty scary.
“The car was responding to small changes really well, I knew my tyres previously were 98%, and I guess that extra 2% was worth quite bit in the end,” he added.
